Daniel Collins, a Derry rower with an Irish passport, was initially barred from competing in the British Rowing Indoor Championships because new rules required athletes to declare as British to be ranked — even though he’s from Northern Ireland. Frustrated and feeling unfairly treated, Daniel pushed back, sparking public outcry and support from media and MP Colum Eastwood. British Rowing listened, reversed course, and confirmed Daniel can compete while representing Ireland — a win for fairness and inclusivity. The organization has updated its guidelines and is excited to welcome global rowers, including Daniel, to Birmingham this December.
