HRBT Repaving Closures This October | Virginia Beach News

Get ready for major weekend closures on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel this October—both directions of I-64 will shut down one at a time, starting Friday nights at 9 PM and ending Monday mornings at 5 AM. First closure: westbound toward Hampton, Oct 2–5; possible second week if needed. This repaving (separate from the big expansion) is urgent—some pavement is over 20 years old and needs full closures since heavy equipment can’t fit inside. Plan ahead: detours include the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge, Route 17, or the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry. Weather backups in November too. Check VDOT’s HRBT closures page for updates.
