Ebola Recovery Hope in Eastern Congo
Published: May 31, 2026
Duration: 1:31
Five Ebola patients have recovered in eastern Congo — a major breakthrough against the rare Bundibugyo strain, which currently has no approved treatment or vaccine. With over 900 suspected cases and 200+ deaths, the outbreak is spreading faster than response efforts can handle, complicated by community resistance to burial protocols and rebel activity. Despite these hurdles, doctors are seeing success with symptomatic care and are optimistic that continued support can bring the outbreak under control — especially with a new treatment center opening in Bunia.
