Why Did Nolan Wells' Search Find Nothing Until Monday?

Search crews covered a patch of water off Horn Island on Sunday and found nothing. A ranger went back Monday morning and found Nolan Wells. 
Nolan was eighteen, a wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was last seen on the island around three in the afternoon on the Fourth of July. About ninety minutes later, the boat's operator called a towing company to report the boat was taking on water.
