A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck in the Gulf Sunday night (March 29) at 9:22pm. It was located about 220 miles south-southeast of Venice, Louisiana, at a depth of 1 kilometer. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor was too small for damage but notable for its rare location. This event did follow a series of recent, stronger earthquakes in northwest LA, including a 4.9 magnitude quake on March 5th. What’s the significance of these Gulf earthquakes, and should we worry? Dr. Cynthia Ebinger, Geology Professor at Tulane University, joins Newell to talk about the phenomenon.
